Q&A:

What interests you about working with the Non-GMO Project – what about this opportunity caught your attention?

I was raised in the Mediterranean food tradition with a strong emphasis on healthy eating and quality ingredients. I developed a passion for reforming our food system when I learned about the depth and scope of modern food and agriculture-related issues during my undergrad years. I realized that many environmental and health issues are linked to food and food production. Since then, I’ve been determined to help improve the health of people, communities, and the planet by changing our relationship to food—namely, to a more transparent one.

How do you think your prior experience will help you in working with the Non-GMO project?

Having worked in small business in the natural products industry, I’ve gained experience in educating consumers about food, health, and public policy. I’m excited to bring my skills to help raise awareness and expand the Project’s mission.

What is important to you about the work you will be doing with the Project?

The Non-GMO Project plays an important role in fostering consumer awareness about GMOs and driving a shift in demand toward non-GMO foods. There is a continued need for education on the matter of genetic modification of foods, as well as continued pressure from the active community of informed consumers concerned about the ingredients in their food. As the Outreach Coordinator, I look forward to facilitating this education and empowering consumers.
