Fast-Growing Paqui Tortilla Chips Receive Non-GMO Project Verification
AUSTIN, TEXAS – Paqui Tortillas is happy to announce that its Paqui Tortilla Chip line has passed a rigorous, independent verification process by the Non-GMO Project. These tortilla chips, which are rapidly gaining popularity, now bear the Non-GMO Project Verified Seal. This seal lets consumers know Paqui Tortilla Chips have met the Non-GMO Project Standard to avoid genetically modified organisms (GMO). With corn being a major risk to GMO’s the Non-GMO Project Verified seal makes Paqui Tortilla Chips a trusted choice on the chip aisle.
The Non-GMO Project is a non-profit organization committed to preserving and building sources of Non-GMO products, educating consumers, and providing verified non-GMO choices. The Non-GMO Project offers North America’s ONLY third-party verification for products produced according to rigorous best practices for GMO avoidance. The organization’s Standard requires that every single batch of major risk ingredients used in a Verified product (example those derived from corn, soy, etc.) is tested before use and be below their action threshold of 0.9%.
“We knew when we began to develop our tortilla chip line that corn was one of the biggest crops susceptible to GMOs. Paqui knew with confidence from our team, our customers and our retailers that we needed to become Non-GMO Project Verified.” Says Doug Lyon, Chief Happiness Officer at Paqui Tortillas. “We are extremely happy to display this seal on our packaging and assure our customers and retailer partners that Paqui is committed to getting all of our products Non-GMO Project Verified.”
Paqui’s line of Non-GMO Project Verified tortilla chips include “Original Delights,” “Roasted Jalapeno,” “Cowboy Ranch” and “Grilled Habanero.” Launching regionally from Austin, Texas last April, Paqui Tortilla Chips can now be found at Kroger and Whole Foods Markets throughout the entire Southwest, California, Florida, Connecticut, New Jersey and New York.
About Paqui Tortillas
Paqui [pah-kee] is an Aztec term that means, “to be happy.” Our happiness is found creating and enjoying our handcrafted tortillas and tortilla chips. We hand roast jalapeños, juice fresh cilantro leaves and make some of the most amazing tortillas you will find on a store shelf.
We spent two years cooking different varieties of corn, making masa, perfecting seasoning blends and developing our tortilla chips. The results are some of the best tasting chips on the market.
